Prologue

Luthorcorp Warehouse RA51

Lex sat in his high-back leather chair, his expression one of impatience. A year he’d been supporting this particular group and he hadn’t had any interesting results so far. While they’d had their breakthroughs, they hadn’t been willing to share until they were sure they had something. Usually, Lex didn’t care for when they were ready, but he’d had his hands busy in other business and so didn’t pay much mind to them. However, they’d finally come up with something to show him and he was interested in seeing if his money had paid off. If not, they were going to have to be shut down and any trail of their existence would be destroyed.

An older and rather nervous looking man stepped forward, showing him a pink vile with a spray top. “We’re very happy you could join us today, Mr. Luthor,” he said, giving a nod. “We realize you’ve been waiting for results and we think we’ve finally come up with something to your liking.” He held up the vile once more and cleared his throat. “The Amorous315 is administered through inhalation. It forces the patient to have an increased libido toward the patient of the opposite sex who was also administered the same. The pheromones increase and drive the inhaler to become attracted to the other person so much so that they will continue to copulate until the antidote is given to them,” the doctor explained.

“And what could this drug accomplish for me?” he asked, lifting a brow.

“Increasingly, adoptive parents are wanting a new breed of child. This way, they can have the perfect offspring. They can pick out the people they want specifically. Speed, intelligence, strength, anything they want in a child. They pick the mother and the father, the two copulate through this drug, and a child of perfection is born to the family. This process would be expensive, of course. They’d have to come to your organization directly and those adopting would be paying huge amounts for this.”

Lex nodded slowly, tapping his closed mouth with his index finger. “Side effects?”

The doctor fidgeted, sighing to himself. “There are still some kinks to be figured out. The antidote takes twenty-four hours to go through the bloodstream and in that time, the couple could have been without sleep or food until pregnancy occurs. There is no telling how long that could take unless the drug is administered on the woman’s most fertile period.” He paused before adding, “There have been deaths caused by exhaustion from the drug.”

Lex remained unmoved. “How many deaths?”

The older man cleared his throat. “Nearly all of those who’ve tried it. However, we are close to a break through, Mr. Luthor. A few more tries and the spray should be completely acceptable,” he said encouragingly.

“Anything else?” he wondered, leaning back in his seat with an unreadable expression.

Another doctor stepped forward, looking rather uncomfortably at Lex. He pushed his glasses up his crooked nose and began, in a wheezy voice, “When the spray is inhaled by two people that are already attracted to each other, it causes some… unusual effects. Because they already have feelings for one another, the two have heightened awareness of each other. If separated, they lean toward insanity until brought back together. Instead of copulating, they tend to…” The doctor blushed profusely. “Well, they… They make love, sir. The process takes much longer and the two individuals become possessive and obsessive of each other, and violent toward any other males that come near the woman.” He shifted on his feet, sighing. “Alternately, when the antidote is administered, the couple has long lasting residual effects. While they aren’t consumed with insanity, they are uncomfortable with being separated. Also, any child born to the couple cannot be taken away. The male becomes so aggressive he will do anything necessary to ensure that the child isn’t separated from them.”

“Anything necessary?” he queried, his brow furrowing slightly.

“We’ve lost two assistants already,” he admitted.

Steepling his fingers, Lex leaned forward. “How long do the residual effects last between the couples?”

The two doctors looked at each other. “They haven’t worn off yet and we’ve been experimenting for over six years.”

Lex rubbed his forehead. “So it’s imperative that all couples involved must not know each other before being administered this spray?”

They nodded.

“And where do you expect to find these willing patients?” he wondered, his tone scathing.

The first doctor shook his head. “I’m afraid it’s unlikely that anybody of the caliber we need would willingly commit to the experiment or give up their child.”

Lex nodded slowly, eyes turned off. “And what happens to the patients after they’ve bred?”

“They’re either kept for later use in the same situation when another couple wants to use them, be it with each other or another male or female, or disposed of.”

Lex turned his head in thought. “This could be groundbreaking, gentlemen. I look forward to seeing where you take this.”

The two doctors grinned. Their work would continue.
